Alternative B, on the other hand, uses different pairs for power. It uses pairs 4 – 5 and 7 – 8 for power delivery while pairs 1 – 2 and 3 – 6 are used for data. This method is less common, but it can be useful in some situations where you need to retrofit an existing network with PoE.
Now, there are some factors to consider when using copper cables for PoE. One of the biggest is power loss. As the electrical power travels along the copper cable, some of it is lost due to resistance in the cable. The longer the cable, the more power is lost. So, if you’re planning to use PoE over long distances, you might need to use thicker cables (like Cat6a) or install power injectors at regular intervals to boost the power.
Another factor is heat. The power flowing through the copper cable generates heat. If too much heat builds up, it can affect the performance of the cable and even damage it. That’s why it’s important to make sure there’s proper ventilation around the cables and that you’re not overloading them with too much power.
